Lymph node Cancer symptoms

Lymph nodes, small glands surrounded by tissue, are found throughout the human body along the lymphatic system. When they are functioning normally, the lymph nodes filter bacteria and toxins from the lymphatic fluid in the body. When the cancer attacks the lymphatic system, the lymph nodes suffer, and cancer patients may experience one or more common symptoms. Lymph node cancer (lymphoma) in general fits one of two categories, Hodgkin's disease or non-Hodgkin's disease. The symptoms of both are similar.

One of the first detectable symptoms of lymph node cancer consists of inflammation of the individual lymphatic glands. In some parts of the body where lymph nodes are near the surface of the skin, including the sides of the neck, armpits, and groin, they may feel like enlarged lumps or lumps that may or might not be painful to the touch. Although inflammation of the lymph nodes is a symptom of numerous illnesses, they should be taken to control by a doctor.

Pain
A generalized pain in the area of a swollen lymph node may occur during the early stages of cancer of lymph nodes, before the most serious symptoms appear. Pain can increase after drinking alcohol. As the cancer progresses, the lymph nodes in the abdomen can cause pain in the spleen which can ignite, creating tenderness in the abdomen and a sensation of fullness.

Appetite and weight loss
Loss of appetite and subsequent weight loss are common with the progression of lymph node cancer. However, these symptoms are common in many medical conditions, so a doctor should examine the patient to rule out other conditions.

Additional Symptoms
Cancer patients may experience additional symptoms when the lymph nodes are damaged. An inexplicable lethargy or fatigue is common, and the patient may have a fever, resulting in night sweats and chills. Some patients may experience itching that is not relieved by topical itching creams. Chest pain and coughing may accompany lymph node cancer if the lymph nodes inside the chest are affected.

Diagnosis
Since the lymphatic system is involved in many other medical conditions, your doctor should order blood tests and perform a physical exam before you make a diagnosis. You can also take chest and abdomen X-rays and perform an inflamed lymph node biopsy.
