"Cancer Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer that attacks the lymph system which is part of the immune system," explains Prof. Dr. Dr. Arry h. Reksodiputro.

Although this disease can attack anyone, he explained, data shows the majority of patients there is a group of teens and young adults. "More than a third of the cases were found at the age of 15-30 years and accounts for about 20 percent of the total number of cases of lymphoma," he explained.

Globally, more than 62,000 people terdiagnosa Hodgkin's lymphoma where about 25,000 people die every year due to this disease. In Indonesia, the number of new cases of Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2012 reach of 1,168, with the number of deaths amounted to 687.

According to Globocan data, this figure is predicted to be experiencing an increase in the year 2020, with new cases of 1,313 and mortality of 811. The high mortality rate in Indonesia is closely related to the delay in detection, resulting in most of the cases of cancer was already at an advanced stage.

"Unfortunately, because it is not common, many people do not know the risk factors and symptoms," added Prof. Dr. Dr. Arry h. Reksodiputro, SpPD-KHOM. "In fact, 80 percent of the cases of Hodgkin's lymphoma can be cured through chemotherapy if detected early. To that end, it is important not to underestimate the bumps on the body, though small in size, "he explained.

The most common symptom of Hodgkin's lymphoma among these bumps on the lymph nodes found in the neck area, armpits and groin. Other symptoms include fever or hot and cold, night sweats, weight loss without an obvious cause of up to 10 percent or more, excessive fatigue and lack of energy, loss of appetite, prolonged cough, enlarged spleen and/or liver.

In Hodgkin's lymphoma, the combination chemotherapy may provide early response that last a long time. However, health workers in Indonesia stated as much as 20 percent of these patients will experience relaps (or recurrence of disease Lymphoma) or refractory (no response) for early treatment.

"The Prognosis of patients with refractory relaps and condition is usually worse and will be more difficult to be cured," explains Dr. Dr. Dody Ranuhardy.
